Caravaggio may be dead, but Guillaume Bresson’s oil paintings present the beauty of violence in such a way that proves this ancient art form is far from forgotten.
Similar in style to the classical masterpieces of the 16th century, Bresson lived in isolation in his Toulouse studio for two years before returning for his most resent show at the Galerie Nathalie Obadia with an onslaught of oil, style and stills from a graphic modern life. Exhibited without any titles to accompany them, these large scale oil paintings are devoid of witty or loaded text and so enable the viewer to interpret the image as they see fit with no enforced narration.
